Part Byzantine icon, part visionary dream, Madonna meditates the world into a tranquil existence.
Several concentric circular stripes orbit her face like electrons around a sacred nucleus. Her head is surrounded by aluminium and holographic fragments that catch real light, turning the painting into a living constellation.
On Christmas night, when the old solar year dies and the new one is born, the circle is complete: the cosmic Mother brings back the Light into our dark, confused world.
Original mixed media/collage on canvas: acrylic, oil, aluminium and iridescent foils collide in a hypnotic celestial dance, whereas some of the collage elements protrude and create a strong sense of three-dimensionality.
